The Beautiful County of Shropshire

Shropshire is a wonderful county in England, sharing its borders with Wales, Cheshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Staffordshire. It is famous for its history, natural beauty and its industrial heritage.

Ironbridge Gorge was in fact the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and hosts the oldest cast iron bridge. The Ironbridge Gorge is part of Shropshire’s fascinating heritage and known worldwide along with Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal.

Spanning Shropshire are over one hundred conservation areas along with multiple areas of natural beauty; Stiperstones, The Carding Mill Valley and The Long Mynd to name a few popular beauty spots.

The scenic route from Shrewsbury to Church Stretton and the Long Mynd is a favourite drive of mine with the spectacular Shropshire Hills to tantalise the eye. I love trail running around the Long Mynd. Running through the stunning valleys and the tumbling hills, the views are breathtaking and meeting deer, sheep and wild horses along the way! The Long Mynd is a perfect place for walking, cycling, paragliding and horse riding too!

Shropshire certainly provides high artisan foods and drinks from farming and diversification. Battlefield Farm Shop and Ludlow Food Centre have certainly put themselves on the map for this.

Ludlow Festival to the foodies out there, is renowned and bursting with folks from all over the county and the UK to come and taste the food and drink from independent producers annually in September.

Shrewsbury oozes history, especially its Tudor heritage with its stunning black and white buildings, narrow streets and particularly Rowley’s House.

Shrewsbury, the county town of Shropshire was also the birthplace Charles Darwin (Famous for his Biological Sciences and his theory of Natural Selection.) It is also well known for is location being along the River Severn, National Trust Site Attingham Park, its thriving market, the World Famous Annual Flower Show and the recent addition of Theatre Severn.

The Shrewsbury area contains some incredible wedding venues for newly engaged couples. Burlton Manor, Hawkstone Hall, Netley Hall and Hencote (which also makes its own English Wines, which are amazing by the way, “Vivienne” is my favourite!)

Outside of Shrewsbury, Davenport House, The Mill Barns and The Astbury Golf Resort are also stunning venues around the Bridgnorth area.

If you are looking for a more rustic barn feel, Pimhill Barn is also a favourite I like to recommend!

I was not originally from Shropshire, I moved to Whitchurch when I was four years old and have never left! Its an incredible market town with great connections with the A41 and A49 from Chester to Shrewsbury. I actually learnt that this road route was actually founded by the Romans and coincidently I live on Roman Way, which was in fact the mid stop point for the Romans along this route. With this history from the Romans, this makes Whitchurch the oldest town in Shropshire!
